Two Ways to Support Wisco Rowing
Meeting today’s needs. Securing tomorrow’s future.
Supports Wisconsin Rowing TODAY
Giving to the Stewards
Excellence Fund
Tax-Deductible Giving: The Stewards of 1874 is an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Purpose: Provides additional private resources to meet the current needs and opportunities of Wisconsin Men’s Rowing.
Your Gift at Work: Funds can be put to work now. A $100,000 gift can provide up to $100,000 in additional resources for a use designated by the donor to meet current program priorities.
Donor Choice: Donors can select specific current needs they wish to fund—for example, a student-athlete scholarship, coaching support, a boat or other equipment identified as needed by the coaches, or alumni/team activities. Coaches and University staff retain all decisions regarding recruiting, hiring, team selection and program operations.
Current Impact: Wisconsin Rowing needs substantial annual private support—currently $500,000+—to supplement the Athletic Department budget and provide the coaching, student-athlete support, equipment and opportunities needed to compete nationally. Scholarships/student financial awards can only be provided through the Stewards.
Naming Opportunities: Depending upon gift level, donors may create annual or permanent naming opportunities connected to specific program needs.
Endowment Opportunities: Donors may also establish an endowment through the Stewards to permanently support an eligible naming opportunity.
Additional Support: Stewards gifts can support the Wisconsin High Performance training program.
Recognition: Gifts count toward annual Stewards membership levels.
Invested With: Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.
Builds financial independence for TOMORROW
Giving to the UW Foundation
Legacy Fund
Tax-Deductible Giving: Gifts are made through the University of Wisconsin Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Purpose: Builds a permanent endowment designed to provide long-term financial stability and ultimately fiscal independence for Wisconsin Men’s Rowing.
Your Gift at Work: Your gift is invested permanently. Approximately 4.5% of the endowment’s value is credited annually toward the Athletic Department’s funding of Men’s Rowing. This is not additional funding added to Crew’s annual operating budget.
Use of Funds: Donors to the existing Legacy Fund cannot designate the use of their individual gift or how the annual distribution is applied.
Long-Term Impact: The goal is $50 million, building an endowment capable of replacing an increasing portion of Athletic Department funding and ultimately providing Crew greater fiscal independence.
Planned Giving: An important choice for gifts through a will or other estate plans that can build permanent support for future generations.
UW Recognition: Gifts earn recognition toward Badger and Bascom Hill Society levels.
Permanent Investment: The balance of the fund remains invested to provide support for generations to come.
Recognition: Gifts are recognized through UW Foundation giving societies rather than Stewards membership levels.
Invested With: University of Wisconsin Foundation.
TWO IMPACTFUL WAYS TO GIVE
Why We Need Both
The Stewards Excellence Fund provides the substantial private resources Wisconsin Rowing needs to thrive and compete TODAY. The Legacy Fund builds the permanent financial foundation Crew needs for TOMORROW.
Here is the simplest way to see the difference:
GIFTING TO THE STEWARDS FUND
A $100,000 gift to the Stewards Excellence Fund can provide up to $100,000 in additional resources for a use designated by the donor to meet current program priorities needed to rebuild our program and assure it is here for the future.
GIFTING TO THE LEGACY FUND
A $100,000 gift to the UW Foundation Men’s Rowing Legacy Fund is invested permanently. Approximately $4,500 annually is credited toward the Athletic Department’s funding of Men’s Rowing. The balance remains invested to build long-term financial independence.
BOTH ARE IMPORTANT
Supporting the Stewards addresses the current needs that assure we regain and maintain our program as the Legacy Fund grows to provide financial independence. Both strengthen Wisconsin Rowing.
